Claude Monet (1840-1926) is known as Claude Oscar Monet, a Frenchman born in Paris that is son of Claude-Adolphe and Louise-Justine Aubree Monet. In 1851, Monet entered the Le Havre secondary school of arts. He first became known locally for his charcoal caricatures. In 1856 he met fellow artist Eugene Boudin who taught him to use oil paints. Some of his friends were Edouard Manet, Alfred Sisly & Renoir. Monet is considered to be the founder of Impressionism. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting "Impression Sunrise". His paintings hang in Musee Marmottan-Monet, and several museums across the world.
