Teak Tables & Accent Benches

India was part of the British Empire, in 1947 India became independent. Teak was the most common wood at that time and was used to build the railways throughout India.  The railroad ties and planking on the rail cars were all teak.  The teak used in making this furniture is at least 150 years old. We know this for it has been about 150 years since Great Britain completed the rail system in India.  India is now upgrading the railroad system, removing the old teak ties and planking and replacing it with concrete ties. The manufacturer we deal with has purchased some of the old teak for the purpose of manufacturing furniture. This “Railway Sleeper Teak” is used to make dining tables, chairs, benches, Cabinets, wine storage units, accent chests and T.V. Consoles. Each piece of furniture is handcrafted and no two pieces of the same model are exactly the same. Each furniture piece uses sections of the teak that will have its own grain and color. A single craftsman makes each unit from beginning to end.
