Our goal is to educate our valued customers and help them make the best decisions for their home furnishing needs. We realize not everyone gets as excited about furniture as we do, but we also know that if you are going to spend your hard earned dollars, you want to insure you are getting the right thing and something you will enjoy for many years to come. So, let’s jump right in and talk about tables.

There are three standard table heights: regular (standard), counter, and bar. The size, function, and personal style of the space you are going to fill will determine which of the three will work best in your home.

Round Regular Table

The Regular / Standard height table stands between 28”-30”. This is the most common table height and therefore you will find it easier to find a variety of different styles. Many people prefer this height because it is what they are most familiar with. Some find this height more comfortable because their feet can reach the ground. Standard height tables are also wheelchair height. This style is considered the most formal, and works best in formal dining rooms.

Counter Height Table

Counter height tables are between 34”-36” tall. Their added height makes them appear smaller, making this style perfect for smaller spaces. If you are looking to fill a small dining area off the kitchen, the height also allows for individuals to sit high enough to see into the kitchen and easily converse with others who are standing. Counter Height tables also work well on patios. The height allows for guests to look over the railing and enjoy the view. If located near the kitchen, these tables are great for added kitchen prep space and work well as a casual dining space. Be aware that this height may be difficult for older adults and small children and pay extra attention when buying chairs. The chairs will need to be tall enough so that you will dine comfortably but not too tall that your knees are hitting the table.

Bar Height Table

Bar height tables are usually between 40”-42”. This style is often confused with counter height and the two share many pros and cons. These tables can be even smaller than counter height tables, and therefore can fit where standard and counter height tables cannot. Buying bar stools or chairs for this style can be tricky too. Be sure that you can sit comfortably without bumping your knees into the table. This style is even more casual than counter height tables and creates a very relaxed feeling.

After you have determined the exact function of your space, deciding on a table height will be much easier. Equipped with the information you need, eFurniture can help you find the perfect table that functions best in your space.
